Interview with SJ Kincaid

okay so i am horrible at keeping up with stuff but i did manage to get the over email interview with SJ Kincaid star author of insignia. she is absolutely amazing and here are the things i asked and she answered

1. Where does your inspiration come from?
I'm very invested in the characters, so I suppose the inspiration comes from trying to capture on paper what exists in my head.

3. what future do you hope for with your books?
I think the best thing I could hope for is that the people who read the books, enjoy them enough to reread somewhere down the road.

4. a lot of writers write in either a shared POV between male and female or just a female POV what made you want to write Insignia in a Male POV?
I wrote five manuscripts from a female POV and none of them got published. I started writing another from a girl's POV and just felt a wave of irritation. I need a change, so that's why books six and then seven were boys-- and seven was INSIGNIA and the first to get published.

5.Did the characters have some connection to you in real life? if so who and why?
I did have this very loud Indian kid who lived near me who partially inspired Vik, and a very perfect person I knew in high school who partially inspired Yuri.

6. Most authors have a favourite character fro their stories do you and if so who?
Probably Vik, just because adding him to a scene pretty much adds the fun, for me as a writer and hopefully for other people as readers.

7. How did you know to end Insignia and why did you end it there?
There were a few key conflicts in the story that I needed to resolve, and I knew the ending had to involve a big showdown between Tom and Medusa. Since that both resolved 1) Tom's treason storyline, and 2) Tom's dilemma between being someone vs. being true to himself, I'd ended the conflicts driving the plot. That meant it was ending time.

8. Were there any big ideas that you started to write into insignia but eventually didnt make it into the book?
There was originally this idea in my head about the internet gaining some sort of conscious awareness... Still not sure where I was going with that.

9.What can we expect in your new novel vortex?
Tom and his friends face some repercussions for choices made in INSIGNIA, and Tom himself faces another great moral quandary that could make his career, or destroy him.

10. as an author who is your idol?
I just finished rereading GONE WITH THE WIND, so I'll say Margaret Mitchell. She broke her leg, and while bed bound, wrote this absolutely incredible story. That's amazing to me.

so what did you think pretty cool right!! authors are absolutely amazing writers and i cant wait to speak with more of them!!

Speechless

when you look at this book there are possibly many different covers you may see and its hard to tell which one sits perfectly for it but that really doesn't matter for the book what matters is the devastating story it tells. my heart broke again and again for this book as hannah harrington explored all the concepts of being a silent one.

The Blurb:
Until now. Because the last secret she shared turned her into a social outcast—and nearly got someone killed.

Now Chelsea has taken a vow of silence—to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting anyone else. And if she thinks keeping secrets is hard, not speaking up when she's ignored, ridiculed and even attacked is worse.

But there's strength in silence, and in the new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way—people she never noticed before; a boy she might even fall for. If only her new friends can forgive what she's done. If only she can forgive herself.

The Trailer:

Pros:

  • original: very different very unique
  • is aware of social problems and stands up to them
  • has great characters and imagery senses and it was believable all characters were not perfect
  • the use of emotions through out this book is pretty incredible
  • i said original before but this is the original characters i have never met another person like Asha or Noah they were so different and very inspiring
Cons:
  • the plot of this book is that she goes through hell and on the book she says to her ex friend bring it on and really only very small minor set ups were performed in that supposed "hell week"
First Line:
Keeping secrets isn't my specialty.

Last Line:
and i dont have to say a word.

Favourite Quote:
"Hate is Easy, Love takes Courage" its one of noahs first/last words to chelsea

My Thoughts:
okay so Chelsea Knott the main character was an absolute bitter side kick to the queen bee and was continually telling Kristen (queen bee) what she saw/heard, you sought of have to have a dislike to Chelsea as you watch her through some of the first scenes and how she reacts to finding out knowledge but as Noah is hospitalized early on she takes a vow of silence after telling her parents what happened. this silence from the outside just looks like a cover up so she doesn't get in any more trouble so to speak by talking after being dropped by Kristen and having the whole school hate her, but on the inside you see that its a vow thats going to bring something out of this. now in this story she doesn't talk most of the way through it but there are parts where you go "OMG SHE'S GOING TO BREAK THE VOW" and you wait and wait and it just doesn't happen she goes through quite a lot of mental abuse from everyone except for a few. those particular few are probably being the ones that should be hating her, Sam and Asha (noah's friends) but its like harmony for Chelsea as they grow closer in detention with Asha and in art class with Sam  she even begins to fall for Sam over her delirious crush Brandon which is totally sweet! Asha is always one of those people that have to see the good in people before/if they realize the bad. when Chelsea does break the vow its to stand u for someone else being picked on because what she has caused at the school. its totally incredible and by then you know you have to love this character even after all the bad things she's done.  Chelsea is an amazingly true character to the real world and watching/reading about her development is incredible because its like you are that person doing that stuff and having that courageous journey.

Overall Score: its definitely 4.9!!
great work fantastic story definitely worth the read!

The Indigo Spell

so here comes the third one to the bloodlines series finally out today and i cant wait to get it myself. this book has some mystery to it but after how the golden lily went we all want to see if adrian and sydney get together.
okay on with the review

Blurb:In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, the Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive—this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.Pros:
  • great story line very different from other richelle mead books
  • great beginning and i loved the ending
  • the real plot of the story
  •  had awesome characters that were already developed from first two books
  • evil mysterious villain that is clearly unsuspected
Cons:
  • the title is although illuminating as well as the cover it sort of is the minor plot to the story and is not fully taken on board in some areas of the story however i like its bit in it
  • the character marcus we have heard a lot about this mysterious marcus and yet in the story when we found him there was not much depth behind him in any way he was very subtle compared to the other characters
okay so there weren't many plots and even the ones i did mention weren't very big but i have to say richelle has had a lot of experience with her other books!!
First Line:
this wasnt the first time i had been pulled out of bed for a crucial mission.
Last Line:
okay so its the last sort of exclamation but it finishes the story i am busting for the next book because of it!(i cant believe you Richelle!!)
Zoe hugged me again. "oh sydney! this is going to be great, " she exclaimed. "we're going to be together all the time!"

Discussion:
i really enjoyed watching sydney develop as a different person  in this book she had a go at things she wouldn't normally try. the start was all about the wedding of sonya and mikhail and about sydney developing her magic with mrs terwilliger. it was all very dreamable and exciting. the middle/slash plot seemed to have that cat chase mouse illusion to it making it very very suspenseful  so much you just couldn't put it down!
i really dont have much to say without maybe giving you a hint to the story but i'm super excited about the next book. oh the ending is tragic just when sydney thought her life was better.well i mean its not literally tragic its more surprising then anything. i am so hyped for it i cant wait to rush to the stores!!!

Overall Score: ok and the overall score is a 4.88

The Indigo Spell is Out Today so quick run as fast as you can to grab it

The Confessions of An Angry Girl

wow i had this book for one week so i could read and review and wow i cannot stop saying this word. Louise Rozett has captured the essence of a normal high school hierarchy for rose and this series hits off with the bang!

Blurb:
Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…

1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is nowenraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

(Sorry. That was rude.)

PROS:

  • funny/hilarious
  • original
  • great aspects to the story
  • puts reality into fiction
  • adds the natural  taste of high school hierarchy
  • fantastic start
  • horribly good ending
Cons:
  •  understated plot
  • title does not fit by end of story
  • has a very abrupt ending
First Line:
Jamie you gonna eat that. you have gotta eat that bagel
Last Line:
i go to my desk open the laptop and i see the screen pop back to life.
Discussion
i really enjoyed this book i got a sense of pure reality from it and had major laughs. i couldn't stop reading it i loved how the character stood up for herself but at the same time backed down just to protect everyone. in the story it starts out with a girl whose angry at her dad for going to war then at her brother and finally at a cheerleader but by the end it really didnt matter whether she started out as an angry girl or not she was more smart and sensible which gave her more making her a less angry person it almost seemed forced her getting angry. but that really was my only problem with the book i loved reading enjoyed from beginning to end and i have a feeling that a lot of my friends are going to read this one now. Louise Rozett has definitely inspired a bit more out of my imagination like all the other great authors
Overall Score: 3.9/5 stars

ok well thats all from me i start school tomorrow so will be trying to review as much as possible but might not get there every time.oh and book out for the next book confessions of an almost girlfriend
